Memphis area spring sports top performers for Week 9 of the 2026 season

Week 9 of the 2026 spring sports season brought standout performances across the Memphis area, with athletes in baseball, softball, boys soccer, and lacrosse delivering memorable outings.

In baseball, Collierville pitcher Jake Morrison threw a complete-game shutout, striking out 12 batters while allowing only two hits in a 3-0 win over Houston. On the offensive side, Bartlett's Ryan Cooper went 4-for-5 with two home runs and five RBIs in a 9-6 victory against Arlington.

Softball saw a dominant display from Germantown's pitcher Emma Torres, who fanned 14 batters in a one-hit, 8-0 win over White Station. At the plate, Briarcrest's Leah Simmons launched two home runs and drove in six runs during a 12-4 rout of St. Benedict.

Boys soccer featured a hat trick from Memphis University School's forward David Chen, who scored three goals in a 4-2 win over Christian Brothers. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Sam Patel of Houston recorded 10 saves in a 1-0 shutout of Cordova.

In lacrosse, St. George's attackman Luke Harrison tallied five goals and two assists to lead his team to a 13-7 victory over ECS. Defenseman Tyler Grant of MUS anchored his squad with four ground balls and three caused turnovers in a tight 8-6 win over Briarcrest.
