Linebacker Jamal Adams announced he is signing with the Minnesota Vikings, just as the team prepares to open training camp. The three-time Pro Bowl selection made the news public on social media, posting a simple message that confirmed his move to the NFC North.
Adams, 28, has been a free agent since the Seattle Seahawks released him in March. His time in Seattle was marked by both high-level play and persistent injuries. After a dominant start with the New York Jets, where he earned two Pro Bowl nods and an All-Pro selection, the Seahawks traded for him in 2020. He delivered a historic season that year, setting the NFL record for sacks by a defensive back with 9.5 and earning another Pro Bowl berth. However, a series of major injuries, including a torn quad tendon and a torn labrum, limited him to just 10 games over the last two seasons.
The Vikings are taking a low-risk chance on a player who was once one of the most disruptive defenders in the league. If healthy, Adams brings a fierce, blitz-heavy presence to Brian Flores' defense. He can line up as a traditional safety or drop down into the box as a linebacker, giving the Vikings flexibility. For Adams, it is a chance to revive his career on a team that believes it can compete for a playoff spot. Training camp will be his first real test to prove his body can still hold up.
