Four Ways the Broncos Can Beat the Chiefs in Week 1

Four Ways the Broncos Can Beat the Chiefs in Week 1

The Denver Broncos open their season against the Kansas City Chiefs, and the matchup offers a chance to change the recent story between these two teams. Kansas City has dominated the rivalry for years, but Denver enters this game with a rebuilt roster and real belief. Here are four keys to pulling off the win.

First, the Broncos must run the ball effectively. Controlling the clock keeps Patrick Mahomes on the sideline and limits the number of possessions for Kansas City's offense. A steady ground game also opens up play action later in the contest.

Second, Denver has to pressure Mahomes without blitzing constantly. He punishes extra rushers with quick throws and scrambles. Winning with four down linemen lets the secondary stay in coverage and forces tight window throws.

Third, the Broncos cannot turn the ball over. Kansas City converts mistakes into points faster than almost any team in the league. Protecting the football and finishing drives with points is essential.

Fourth, Denver needs to start fast. Playing from behind against the Chiefs rarely works. An early lead builds confidence, quiets the crowd, and forces Kansas City to adjust its game plan.

If the Broncos execute these four things, they give themselves a real shot at an upset.
