The Atlanta Falcons have made a move to bolster their offensive line, acquiring tackle Wanya Morris in a trade. The deal, which sent a conditional late-round pick to the Kansas City Chiefs, adds a young player with starting experience to a unit that has been dealing with injuries and inconsistency.
Morris, a 2023 third-round pick out of Oklahoma, started 12 games for the Chiefs over the past two seasons. He primarily played left tackle but has the versatility to swing to the right side. In Atlanta, he is expected to compete immediately for a backup role, though his path to the starting lineup is currently blocked.
The current depth chart places Kaleb McGary firmly at right tackle. On the left side, Jake Matthews remains the established starter. Morris likely slots in as the primary swing tackle behind both, pushing veteran Storm Norton down the depth chart. The interior of the line is more settled, with Chris Lindstrom at right guard, Drew Dalman at center, and Matthew Bergeron at left guard. The primary backup at guard is Kyle Hinton.
The trade signals that the Falcons were not satisfied with their tackle depth. Morris offers a cheaper, younger option than some free-agent veterans, and he still has two years left on his rookie deal. While he struggled with penalties and consistency in Kansas City, the change of scenery and a defined backup role could help him develop. For now, the starting five remains unchanged, but Morris provides a much-needed safety net if an injury occurs on the edge.
