Belmont High School Sports Wrap (April 18

The past week at Belmont High School was a showcase of athletic excellence, with several teams delivering standout performances and hard-fought victories. The baseball team continued its dominant season, securing two crucial league wins. On Tuesday, the Marauders edged out a tough Arlington squad with a 4-3 walk-off victory in the bottom of the seventh inning, fueled by a clutch double from junior captain Alex Chen. They followed that up with a commanding 8-1 road win against Lexington on Thursday, where senior pitcher Sarah Jenkins struck out 12 batters over six innings.

On the track, the BHS girls’ track and field team made headlines by winning the annual Middlesex League Relay Championships. The 4x400 meter relay team set a new school record with a time of 3:58.2, breaking a mark that had stood since 2019. Sophomore sprinter Maya Rodriguez also impressed, taking first place in the 100-meter hurdles.

The boys’ lacrosse team split their week, falling to a strong Reading squad 11-7 on Wednesday but rebounding with a decisive 14-5 victory over Woburn on Saturday. Goalie Liam O’Brien recorded 15 saves in the win. Meanwhile, the girls’ tennis team remains undefeated after sweeping Winchester 5-0, with first singles player Emma Liu winning her match in straight sets. The softball team also secured a narrow 3-2 win over Watertown, thanks to a game-winning RBI single from freshman catcher Olivia Park in the bottom of the sixth. Overall, it was a week of resilience and record-breaking for Belmont High School athletics.
