The Washburn Ichabods are set to begin conference play with a challenging road test this weekend. Washburn travels to Maryville, Missouri, to face No. 7 Northwest Missouri State on Saturday, September 12, marking the start of MIAA competition for both programs.
The Ichabods are coming off a 16-16 tie against Colorado School of Mines, a result that left the team eager to move forward. Washburn has spent the week refocusing and preparing for one of the toughest opponents on its schedule.
Northwest Missouri State enters the matchup ranked seventh in the nation, presenting a significant test for the Ichabods in their conference opener. The Bearcats have historically been a powerhouse in the MIAA, and playing them on the road adds another layer of difficulty.
Washburn will look to establish its identity on both sides of the ball as it transitions from non-conference play into the grind of the conference schedule. The team knows that starting MIAA play with a strong performance, even against a ranked opponent, could set the tone for the rest of the season.
Kickoff is scheduled for Saturday in Maryville. The Ichabods will aim to upset the Bearcats and open conference play on a high note.
