The Pittsburgh Steelers return to the practice field on Monday for the next phase of organized team activities, and there is no shortage of questions surrounding the team. After a busy offseason that reshaped the quarterback room and the offensive line, these voluntary sessions will offer the first real look at how the new pieces fit together.
The biggest storyline remains the quarterback competition. With Russell Wilson and Justin Fields both in the building, all eyes will be on how they split first-team reps. Wilson is the presumed starter given his experience and contract, but Fields brings a dynamic athleticism that could change the offense's identity. How quickly Wilson picks up Arthur Smith's system and whether Fields can push him will define the next few weeks.
Another major focus is the offensive line. The team invested heavily in the trenches, adding Troy Fautanu and Zach Frazier through the draft. The battle at center between Frazier and Nate Herbig will be critical, as will the competition at right tackle between Fautanu and Broderick Jones. A cohesive front is essential for any quarterback to succeed.
Defensively, the secondary needs attention. With Patrick Peterson gone and Joey Porter Jr. stepping into a larger role, the cornerback group is young. Keeanu Benton's development on the interior defensive line is also worth watching as the team looks to improve its run defense.
Finally, the health of key players like T.J. Watt and Cam Heyward will be monitored. While these drills are not full-contact, the intensity and execution will set the tone for training camp. The Steelers are aiming to return to the playoffs, and these OTAs will reveal whether the roster is ready to take that step.
