The New York Giants held a lighter workout on Wednesday, and for the first time in over a week, a handful of key players were seen taking part in drills. While the session was far from full speed, the presence of several starters offered a small but positive sign for the team as they prepare for Saturday's preseason opener against the Minnesota Vikings.
Among those who suited up were a few offensive linemen who had been sidelined with minor injuries. Their participation was limited, mostly involving individual work and some positional drills rather than full team scrimmages. The coaching staff has been cautious with the group, preferring to ease them back into the rhythm of practice rather than rush them into contact situations.
The Giants have been dealing with a string of nagging injuries throughout training camp, which has made it difficult for the first-team unit to build any consistent chemistry. Wednesday's practice was designed to be light, focusing on walkthroughs and special teams, but the return of these players to the field was still a welcome development for the coaching staff.
Head coach Brian Daboll has not yet confirmed whether any of the returning players will see game action on Saturday. The team typically holds out most starters for the first preseason game, especially those who have been battling injuries. However, the fact that they were able to get through a full practice without setbacks is a step in the right direction.
The Giants will hold one more full practice before making the final decision on who travels to Minnesota. For now, the focus remains on getting healthy and building momentum before the regular season begins.
