Former Georgia running back Nick Chubb announced his retirement from professional football this evening through a heartfelt social media post, bringing an end to an eight-year NFL run. Chubb, who grew up in Cedartown and earned the nickname "Ground Hound" during his college days, was a cornerstone of Kirby Smart's early success in Athens. He helped push the Bulldogs to their first College Football Playoff appearance in decades and set the tone for the program's eventual rise to a national powerhouse.
Chubb entered the league as a second-round pick and quickly became one of the most reliable and punishing runners in the game. He rushed for over 8,000 career yards, made four Pro Bowls, and earned a reputation for breaking tackles and carrying defenders for extra yards. His 2020 season, where he finished second in rushing yards, remains one of the best campaigns by any back in recent memory.
Injuries took a toll in his final years, including a devastating knee injury in 2023 that required multiple surgeries. Still, Chubb fought his way back to the field this past season, showing the same grit that defined him since his high school days. His retirement marks the end of an era for a player who never shied away from contact and always put his team first.
