October 21, 2026 - 10:52

Grace Nolan, a local runner and medical student, was killed in a car crash the night before she was scheduled to compete in the Detroit Free Press Marathon. The collision happened just hours before the race was set to begin, leaving friends, family, and the running community in shock.

Nolan had established herself as a dedicated competitor. She finished fourth in last year's marathon, a result that underscored her commitment to the sport and her steady progress as a distance runner. Those who knew her described her as disciplined and driven, qualities that carried over from her training into her medical studies.

The marathon went ahead as planned, but the mood was subdued. Runners and spectators observed a moment of silence in her honor, and many participants wore ribbons or wrote her name on their race bibs as a small tribute. Organizers expressed their condolences and acknowledged the loss felt throughout the event.

Nolan's death has prompted an outpouring of support from the local running community. Fellow athletes remembered her encouragement on and off the course, while classmates and faculty at her medical school recalled her dedication to caring for others. A memorial gathering is being planned, with details expected to be shared in the coming days.
