Maryland Football 2026 Spring Catch-Up, Horseshoe Crab Sandwich

Maryland Football 2026 Spring Catch-Up, Horseshoe Crab Sandwich

Route 1 is both my approach to this article and a major thoroughfare in College Park, Maryland. A long, long time ago, I promised that, in lieu of starting B1G 2026 until around the Fourth of July, we would be doing drop-in updates on the various teams of the Big Ten. So here we are, checking in on the Terrapins as spring ball wraps up and the summer conditioning grind begins.

The big question for Maryland this offseason is who steps up at quarterback. The depth chart is unsettled, and the coaching staff has been rotating a few candidates through the spring practices. No one has locked down the job yet, which means the fall camp competition will be intense. The offensive line is also a concern. They lost some key starters, and the new group needs to gel quickly if the running game is going to take pressure off whoever wins the QB job.

On defense, the secondary looks like the strongest unit. They return several experienced players who should be able to hold their own against the high-powered passing attacks in the Big Ten. The front seven is a bit of a mystery. They need to find a consistent pass rush and shore up the run defense, which was a weak spot last season.

And then there is the Horseshoe Crab Sandwich. It is not a football drill. It is a local delicacy that has become a weirdly popular topic among fans on message boards. Some tailgaters swear by it, while others find the whole concept unappealing. Either way, it is a reminder that College Park has its own unique flavor, both on and off the field. The Terps have a lot of work to do before the season kicks off, but the spring gave them a chance to start building some chemistry.
