The Los Angeles Dodgers have added some pitching depth, acquiring left-handed starter Eric Lauer from the Toronto Blue Jays. The team confirmed the move on social media Sunday afternoon. To clear a spot for Lauer on the 40-man roster, the Dodgers transferred right-handed reliever Brusdar Graterol from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list.
Lauer, 29, has not pitched in the majors this season. He spent 2024 with the Pittsburgh Pirates, posting a 4.56 ERA over 11 starts before being designated for assignment. The Blue Jays signed him to a minor league deal in the offseason, but he never appeared for their big league club. Lauer is best known for his time with the Milwaukee Brewers, where he put up a 3.19 ERA across 24 starts in 2021. He has a career record of 31-30 with a 4.30 ERA in parts of six seasons.
The Dodgers are hoping Lauer can provide rotation insurance as the season wears on. He will likely report to Triple-A Oklahoma City initially to build up his arm strength. The move comes as Los Angeles continues to deal with injuries to its starting staff, making any experienced arm a valuable addition.
